She had a very specific date that is must arrive by. So there must be some sort of amazing steampunk-ie shindig taking place very soon. I will have to dig further to see what it is, cuz I want to go too. https://www.etsy.com/listing/129389766/tiara-clockhand-steampunk-noir-victorian?ref=shop_home_activeEJPcreationshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01578544265480864991noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3913666767181128624.post-13918654911226243482013-03-14T11:50:00.000-07:002013-03-16T13:24:45.879-07:00Stereophotograph DiableriesI've been researching Stereophotograph Diableries all day today since I saw this post on Facebook this morning. I first saw them a couple of years ago on tumblr, but further research lead to a dead end. Today I continued looking around for them, and found some great information, but I can't seem to find a good book about them and that makes me sad. I'm hoping this company will put one out soon. They are just so cute I can't help loving them. londonstereo.com

Do You Like Our Owl? Blade Runner is probably one of my favorite movies. Paul X. Johnson captures the severity and coldness of Rachael so well in the print. And by juxtaposing her with the owl it instantly brings up the sadness of her finding out she is really and android just like the owl. It is so chilling, yet so elegant. Rachael By Paul X. Around the same time Michaels had a sampler pack of fall color light weight cardstock. That is what makes up the actual rosette. It wouldn't be a proper Halloween decoration without tons of black and diamond stickles. And the owl from my favorite Martha Stewart Halloween stamps Elegant Witch looms from the center. Oh and of course you can't forget a little bit of black satin ribbon to finish it off.EJPcreationshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01578544265480864991noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3913666767181128624.post-36614637644632988182013-02-14T12:18:00.001-08:002013-02-14T12:19:26.756-08:00Steampunk Cthulhu Gentleman got a makeover!

My Steampunk Cthulhu Gentleman got a makeover! I was contacted by this lovely shop owner of Cthulhu Nation Motorcycle Cult. It seems that he is the organizer of a Motorcycle club that does a lot of charity work in Texas. Since his clubs name was Cthulhu Nation he thought my images would be a perfect fit for the redesign of their club patches. And he also wanted to make up some tee shirts to sell at charity functions they attend a couple times a year. Well, he had me at the word charity, and the request that my Cthulhu be remade with a monocle and swag bag all gentleman thief style. How could I possibly refuse that. It has all the elements that I love. The banners, that amazing oval die (Lifestyle Crafts Nesting Inverted Oval), and adorable skeleton with a pinwheel and bow tie, and as much stickles as the card can hold. Not to mention it was for one of my favorite people on the planet the woman behind the creations of Nacreous Alchemy . It was made with Recollections Bon Appetite Halloween Stamps, and Recollections Halloween paper. Oh and tons of Vintage Photo sponging. The banners and everything else was hand cut except for the amazing ovals. Ooooooo ... The winged devil sits above the lost soul and taunts them for eternity with the object they desire most, love, symbolized with a dangling spiked heart. The object they all strive to have yet once they hold it in their hands can pierce their flesh if they aren't mindful of how to care for it. There is hope of course, because where there is love there is always hope, but for these poor souls the road will be long to find their way home again. The scene is surrounded by a wood box with an elaborate frame around the outside. Decorated with my own rendition of hell's coat of arms a winged skull, crossed bones, and a little wriggling maggot. I learned this technique from the amazing Stampin Up Demonstrator Angie Kennedy Juda. I know I'm a little late to the party, but I just discovery their products and sort of went a nuts buying them this season. But really I blame her demos. I've been a huge collector of stamps, punches, and dies for awhile now. And I have been a working artist for a long time so I know how to use them, but until I started watching her YouTube channel I really didn't have the drive to use them all that much. I think it's how easy she makes each project that finally got me to break them out and get to work. And her demo for this card is just as easy, and the result is just so fun and impressive that it is now my new go to design. The finished card is made with the ADORABLE Kristina Werner's Gnome for the holiday's Stamp from Simon Says Stamps, and Basic Grey Aspen Frost Collection Paper.EJPcreationshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01578544265480864991noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3913666767181128624.post-68164285527793694352013-02-14T10:19:00.002-08:002013-02-14T10:19:41.815-08:00Victorian era silhouettes over timeThe World Of Steam pinned this to one of their pinterest boards the other day. As well as the Basic Grey "what's up" paper. I went a little crazy with the glossy accents. You can't really tell from the pictures, but all the words have a thick coat of it making it look like a sort of enamel sign. And on the front I mixed in diamond stickles with the glossy accents for a pretty shimmery effect. She loved it so I was happy.EJPcreationshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01578544265480864991noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3913666767181128624.post-3825819679922842422013-01-30T13:34:00.001-08:002013-01-30T13:34:21.687-08:00Burlesque headband and the creative process

I started this headband SUCH a long time ago. Probably two years ago. I knew exactly how I wanted the shape to look. It needed to be like a 1940's side sitting feather hat, but very burlesque in feel. The problem was I didn't quite know how to move forward with it. Every couple of months I would pick it up again. Look at it, love the shape, try it on, think about it for a little while more. Then put it back in it's little drawer to be worked on at a later date. I do this with a lot of projects that I just can't seem to get the right inspiration to complete the look I envision in my head. Almost like I'm waiting for a little imp to skip through my workspace and bonk me on the head with an epiphany. Well, no sign of the imp he must have been busy elsewhere. But then something amazing happened. I needed to make a Christmas gift for a dear friend of mine and the image of her wearing the headband Popped into my head. From that moment forward It's construction was a mystery to me no more. A little while back I woke up after a very deep sleep and realized that I had been dreaming about Dutch memento mori paintings. Those huge thick heavy still life's of a large oppressive table with wilted flowers and decaying fruit. I think in my dream I was watching the fruit decay over and over again in a loop. Scary huh... Bet your glad your not in my brain. Anyway... It stuck with me all day to where I was getting really irritated at the Dutch and suddenly it hit me why does memento mori artwork have to be so damn depressing. Yes death is sad, but it my belief system loved ones will be there waiting for us with open arms and all my animals that have passed will be bounding about me. It's a day I sort of look forward to in a morbid way. So this is my version of a "Happy" memento mori. Banners, and streamers flutter behind the subject as if he is at a party. The skeleton is in his best party attire, top hat included, and he is even making it more festive with a pinwheel. Take that Dutch painters! Just try to usurp my dreams and this is what you get.EJPcreationshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01578544265480864991noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3913666767181128624.post-80766127761647623782013-01-18T17:16:00.001-08:002013-04-14T16:37:10.422-07:00Christmas Ornament #2

This is another Christmas ornament I made this year. He is a sort of Dickens skeleton bearing gifts. I am most proud of his top hat and little holly ornament on the band of his hat. Oh and his little crystal scarf tack. I was originally going to give him a cravat, but he ended up preferring a scarf.
One of my main projects for 2012 was to work more with color. Color in my artwork is something that I have always ignored. My designs with jewelry and sculpture have usually been in metal or monochromatic so there was never any real need for color. But, I realized this might be hurting my design process. And in an effort to keep growing I wanted to push myself in the area that I'm least comfortable with. So last year in my spare time color was my new project. But how to go about that. If I was actually going to be serious about it I would have to make the pursuit fun. But, again, how to do that. And then while browsing around one of my favorite stores The Paper Source thumbing through their amazing papers it hit me... cardand package design.

I have been fascinated with package design since I started studying Japanese culture ages ago. They have this unique affinity for wrapping packages, and gifts that is unparalleled in the rest of the world. I have been making cards and boxes for presents for years, but always making them out of scraps of materials laying around the house. For some reason I just never made it over to the scrapbooking section of the craft store. But after buying my first 6x6 paper pad I was hooked. Scrapbook papers are so amazing these days that you simply can't walk by a pad and not thumb through them. Then and there I decided to start out by making the cards and little items around the house I use to make out of scraps, out of these beautiful papers. A funny thing happened though. I would buy the paper and not use it. Just look at it from time to time still making things out of scraps. You know what my problem was? The paper was just too pretty! I couldn't make myself cut it up. Also there was an element of, "if the thing that I was making good enough for the paper to be used for it". This mindset had to go! So that is why posted this on my blog to showcase the items I have made, forcing me to use those pretty, pretty papers. As well as focusing on color, and pushing my designs sense. So here is my first foray into this new medium. It's a sweet little card made with Basic Grey Konnichiwa Paper and Hero Arts Konnichiwa stamp set. She is a singer/song writer and wanted something very dramatic for her performances. Her idea was to extend the clock hands in one of my hair combs to twice their normal size, and then sprinkle it with all kinds of bling. I was a little skeptical that such a large piece would stay in her hair, but to my surprise once I finished it I realized it was just as sturdy and wearable as the smaller versions. Once it arrived to her home she let me know she loved it, and it was the perfect addition to her costume. In fact she loved it so much she took to waring it around off stage and it has become part of her signature style. This is why I love commission work. I would never have thought to go that direction with a hair comb, and because of her inspiration I did and now it opens up a whole world of design ideas to me.EJPcreationshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01578544265480864991noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3913666767181128624.post-85579505116016208772012-12-20T18:35:00.003-08:002012-12-20T18:35:55.323-08:00Disneyland's Hatbox Ghost revealed! The mystery of the hatbox ghost revealed from Anaheim Disneyland. I ran across this etching today and fell in love with it. It's called “Christmas Tree at Windsor Castle” wood engraving by J.L. Williams from The Illustrated London News 1848. When I searched further I found a description of the tree and it's trimmings. The wording is so elegant and vivid I had to post it here...
"The Christmas Tree represented in the engraving is that which is annually prepared by Her Majesty's command for the Royal children. Similar trees are arranged in other apartments for Her Majesty, His Royal Highness Prince Albert, Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Kent, and the Royal household. The tree employed for this festive purpose is a young fir about eight feet high, and has six tiers of branches. On each tier, or branch, are arranged a dozen wax tapers. Pendent from the branches are elegant trays, baskets, bonbonnieres, and other receptacles for sweetmeats, of the most varied and expensive kind; and of all forms, colours, and degrees of beauty. Fancy cakes, gilt gingerbread and eggs filled with sweetmeats, are also suspended by variously-coloured ribbons from the branches. The tree, which stands upon a table covered with white damask, is supported at the root by piles of sweets of a larger kind, and by toys and dolls of all descriptions, suited to the youthful fancy, and to the several ages of the interesting scions of Royalty for whose gratification they are displayed. The name of each recipient is affixed to the doll, bonbon, or other present intended for it, so that no difference of opinion in the choice of dainties may arise to disturb the equanimity of the illustrious juveniles. On the summit of the tree stands the small figure of an angel, with outstretched wings, holding in each hand a wreath. Those trees are objects of much interest to all visitors at the Castle, from Christmas Eve, when they are first set up, until Twelfth Night, when they are finally removed. During this period two trees of similar magnitude and general design stand on the sideboard of the Royal Dining-room, and present a brilliant appearance when all the tapers are lighted up, among the branches. These trees are not accessible to the curiosity of the public; but Her Majesty's visitors accompany the Queen from room to room to inspect them when they are illuminated. Her Majesty's tree is furnished by His Royal Highness Prince Albert, whilst that of the Prince is furnished according to the taste of Her Majesty. The other trees are jointly provided by Her Majesty and the Prince, who plan and arrange the gifts on the table. The trees are constructed and arranged by Mr Mawditt, the Queen's confectioner." One of the ornaments I made for my Christmas tree. Why the bird in a hat well... it reminds me of England for some reason. I think it's the party hats they wear around the holidays, and the bird looks like one that was in a painting on a pub sign I would walk past frequently.
While working on a new project on my balcony I felt a shadow pass over head. I looked up just as he landed on the roof across the way. The biggest Grey Heron I have ever seen walking around daintily on the roof top. It happens to be a great vantage point for the little crawdads that swim in the streams in my complex. We have called him The Chamberlain in homage to the Dark Crystal. He was posing for quite sometime. And seemed to know he looked best with the Plum tree leaves in front of him. He even stretched up a few times as if to say "girl go get your camera, don't let this go to waste." I had my hands in plaster, but he waited patiently until I had cleaned them off and snapped off a few picts.

I always tear up when I think of Queen Victoria. And how she cherished her departed husbands memory by wearing a black mourning dress for the rest of her life. Also, sleeping with a cast of Prince Albert’s hand next to her pillow so that she could hold him as she slept. And insisting that every single day, her husband’s clothes should be laid out, that his breakfast be prepared and that hot water be brought to his room every morning so that he could shave.
